Preparing for Your Session

A little preparation goes a long way

The goal is simple — to capture you looking like the best version of yourself. Drink plenty of water the day before, get a good night’s sleep, and arrive knowing that we’ll handle the rest.

Clothing

The most important thing is that you look and feel good in what you wear. Beyond that, a few guidelines will help ensure you’re the focus of every frame.

  • In general, you should choose solid colors over loud patterns — stripes, polka dots, and busy prints compete with your face for attention
  • Avoid clothing with visible logos where possible
  • Make sure everything is pressed and wrinkle-free. Bring a few options on hangers in case you want to switch things up
  • Business attire is a natural fit, but not a requirement — wear what reflects how you want to be seen
  • If you’re considering full-length or half-body shots, bring complete outfits and good footwear
Clothing options

If you’re unsure about your choices, bring a few options — we’re happy to look through them together before we start.

Makeup

Arrive camera-ready. Keep makeup light, natural, and fresh — heavy application rarely translates well on camera. Bring your kit for touch-ups between looks, and if using foundation, a light liquid formula with a dewy finish photographs better than powder.

Glasses

If you wear glasses and have contacts, consider wearing contacts for the session so we can photograph you both with and without your frames. If you have multiple frames you like, bring those along too.

Jewelry

Keep it simple. Delicate stud earrings work well — anything larger or dangling tends to draw attention away from your expression. Necklaces are best avoided altogether.

Lips

Apply lip balm the day before and the morning of your session. It’s a small detail that makes a noticeable difference on camera.

Additional Tips for Women

  • Bring three or more of your best-fitting tops or dresses
  • One or two professional jackets are a great addition — they add versatility and polish
  • Choose tops that contrast or complement your hair color to create visual separation
  • If you have different types of accessories or jewelry that you think would complement each outfit differently, be sure to bring them with you.

Additional Tips for Men

  • Arrive clean-shaven or with your beard neatly trimmed — pay attention to the small stray hairs that are easy to miss
  • Bring at least two suit or sports jackets and three well-fitting plain shirts
  • Straight collars photograph better than floppy ones — iron everything
  • A tie isn’t required, but adds a polished touch. If you plan to wear one, bring a selection that pairs well with your shirt choices — full Windsor or half Windsor both work well
